Live Well. Give the Earth (and you) a Chance.
SINCE/ 2020
Living in an apartment is a great step towards minimizing your footprint on this earth. It can also encourage laziness. But if you feel guilty or even a bit uneasy when you tip dinner leftovers/expired food or plastic packaging from your latest purchases into the rubbish bin, then become a Kapartmentalist (not a perfectionist!). |

Take the Challenge.
It's easy to develop bad easy living habits, like chucking everything into your huge free (we'll talk about this later) communal rubbish dumpster bins. Out of sight, out of mind!
There is no pressure on becoming a zero waste expert on this website (or even to follow everything if you don't have time)...take it slow... but start with one thing. Watch the video (7minutes) to find out more about the "zero waste" myth. |
About Kapartmental.
Apartment living is convenient and great for making the most of your leisure time because you don't have lawns to mow and can lock up and leave anytime.
But it's not always easy to be an eco warrior in a small urban flat, especially if you've got too much going on or want to spend more time on other things. I developed Kapartmental to help you reduce your waste and be conscious of what you're spending your money on, based on what I've learned from living in an apartment, here and around the world. The name is from a combo of "Kiwi" and "apartment". Kapartmental is your guide to making better decisions by providing you with tips, info and links for sustainable apartment living. |
How do you become a Kapartmentalist?
REDUCE /Step 1 The easiest way to minimize your waste is not to buy new stuff in the first place and to be careful with what you bring into your home. Less pressure on your wallet and you won't end up with the problem of having too much that you then need to pass on or throw out. REUSE/ Step 2 If you made the decision not to buy new this time, but you still need something, then look at where you can source that item from somewhere else. Often if you ask for something from the universe or someone, it'll turn up. Seriously... You can repurpose (often another R step but three steps are easier to remember) an existing item to solve your problem. RECYCLE/ Step 3
Finally, you may end up with stuff you no longer need or want. The best outcome is when you've used something up completely with no waste . However that's not what most of us do when something goes out of fashion or you have something left over. Then pass it on - no point cluttering up your home if there is no use for it to you or put into the recycling system - you may even get paid in return. Some things will end up in general rubbish and that's okay too. |
